Rustic Recycling

Posted by

Theres this great thing about all of our glass jars and containers, apart from the fact that they give you hours of happiness they are 100% recyclable and I wanted to share with you how to do this and some of the oh so cool ways you can re-use them.

Preparing your glass to be re-used

Once you have finished with your candle which I suggest is when there is around 2ml of wax left in the bottom jar all you need to do is sit the jar in a saucepan of hot water, hot not boiling and wait for the remaining wax to melt completely.  Then you need to pour out the excess wax, wick and wick sticker, I usually just pour this straight into the bin using a tea towel to protect my hands from the hot glass.  The next step is to wash the jar out with hot soapy water, I recommend leaving the jar in the soapy water for a few minutes to allow the labelling to come off.  Once this is completed all of the labelling, wax and charing should be gone, leaving your jar looking like new and now for the fun part.

Preserving, my favourite is lemon preserve from my lovely Mother In-Law Meg who has recently made me some, and it is now preserving nicely for the next few weeks.

I hope this has given you some inspiration and motivation to re-use your rustic jars and contemporary collection.  I absolutely love having a Vanilla Bean candle burning next to a re-cycled jar with David Austin Roses in, it works perfectly for that vintage chic look.

Happy recycling people!
